Douglas Anderson, PharmD


Dr. Douglas Anderson is Professor and Chair of Pharmacy Practice at Cedarville University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Anderson completed his B.S. in Pharmacy and Pharm.D. degrees at University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy where he was the first Pharm.D. graduate. He also completed a PGY1 Residency at Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, and Fellowship in Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He is a clinician who has specialized in cardiology (cardiovascular risk reduction) and anticoagulation/thromboembolic disorders. He serves on the worship team at Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Xenia, OH, by playing electric, acoustic, and bass guitar. He is married to his lovely wife Jen who is a physician assistant. He is an avid fisherman, and loves collegiate athletics (especially football).

Jeffrey T. Copeland, BS, ThM, PharmD

 

Dr. Jeffrey Copeland is an ordained Baptist Minister, a Registered Pharmacist, and a former United States Army Captain.  His beloved wife, Julie, is a registered dietitian.  Julie and Jeff are the parents of two wonderful boys, Nathan and Matthew.  He holds a bachelor of science degree from Berry College, a doctor of pharmacy degree from Mercer University, and a master of theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.  Jeff is the Associate  Dean of Experiential and Pharmacy Technician Education and Professor in Pharmacy Practice, and the CPFI student chapter advisor at the University of the Incarnate Word, Feik School of Pharmacy in San Antonio, Texas. Jeff currently serves as the president of CPFI. 

Fred M. Eckel, BS, MS, SCD (Hon)
 

 

Fred Eckel is Executive Director Emeritus of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists and Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

Fred grew up in Philadelphia where he graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.  He earned his MS degree and residency in hospital pharmacy from The Ohio State University School of Pharmacy and Hospitals. He received an honorary doctor of science degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in May 2009.  Fred is a pharmacist by choice, commitment and concern.  During his lengthy career, he has worked in community and hospital pharmacy settings.  He served as Director of Pharmacy at the UNC Hospitals from 1968 to 1975.  Fred is a past president of ASHP, NCSHP, and the North Carolina Center for Pharmaceutical Care. Fred is Editor Emeritus of Pharmacy Times and has contributed over 250 articles and editorials to the pharmacy literature.  He is a frequent speaker at pharmacy meetings, having spoken in every U.S. state and on all inhabited continents.

Fred’s wife, Peggy, is a nurse; his daughter, Sarah, and son, Stephen, practice pharmacy.  Fred’s faith is important to him.  He currently serves as the immediate past president of Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International.

Fred is considered a pharmacy futurist. You may not agree with him, but he will make you think.  Be prepared to be challenged, stimulated, and quickened.

Barry Ewy, PharmD, JD, MHA



Dr. Barry Ewy is the CEO of Blessings International, a non-profit international pharmaceutical repackager and wholesaler, where he is responsible for operational and financial leadership including all aspects of the organization including product sourcing and meeting current good manufacturing practices. He works with short term medical mission teams traveling worldwide as well as long-term mission clinics to assess their product needs.
Dr. Ewy has also served as the CEO of a specialty acute care hospital, a Director of Pharmacy, and had a private law practice.  Over the last 15 years, he has presented lectures on medical missions product procurement, leadership, pharmacy and health care law, and organizational structure and control.

Dr. Ewy earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy; his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, School of Law; and his Master of Health Administration from A.T. Still University. 

Tracy Frame, PharmD

 
Dr. Tracy Frame is an Associate Professor at Belmont University College of Pharmacy. She graduated from Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy and then completed a residency at the Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System in Denver, Colorado.  After completing her residency, she worked as a patient care clinical manager with Kroger, Inc., and then started in academia at Cedarville University which ultimately led to her current job at Belmont University.  She teaches in the Pathophysiology and Therapeutics series and the Health Assessment course. She maintains a practice site at The Next Door, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving women impacted by addiction, mental illness, trauma and/or incarceration. She works with the medical team there which provides medically-monitored detoxification, acute medical care, chronic disease management and educational groups. She loves working with the women there in their road to recovery. Dr. Frame also has a huge passion for missions and is involved in missions both locally and globally in underserved areas.  Her areas of research include substance use, women’s health and student wellness and spirituality.
 
Daniel A. Hussar, PhD
 

Daniel A. Hussar is Dean Emeritus and Remington Professor of Pharmacy Emeritus at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at the University of the Sciences.  He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees and as Honorary President of the American Pharmacists Association, and is a Past President of the Drug Information Association and the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association.  He has served on the Board of Directors of World Vision and the Board of Directors of Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International.  He is a recipient of the Remington Honor Medal of the American Pharmacists Association and the Distinguished Pharmacy Educator Award of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. 

Dr. Hussar’s primary interests are in the areas of new drugs, drug interactions, patient safety, and issues facing the profession of pharmacy, and he has written and spoken extensively on these subjects.  For many years he has published articles in several professional journals on the new medications that have been marketed in the United States.  He serves as the Author/Editor of The Pharmacist Activist monthly newsletter.  
 
Emily Laswell, PharmD, BCPS


Dr. Emily Laswell completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Ohio Northern University in May 2012. Following her graduation, Dr. Laswell completed a post graduate pharmacy practice residency at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. During her residency, she also obtained a teaching certificate from the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University. Dr. Laswell is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Cedarville University and practices at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio where she focuses on the care of patients with stroke and other neurologic diseases. In addition to her clinical practice site, Dr. Laswell coordinates annual Saline training sessions for multiple healthcare professions within Cedarville University.  

Daniel Mansour, PharmD 

Dr. Daniel Mansour completed his doctor of pharmacy at the University of Maryland School Of Pharmacy and his specialized residency training in geriatrics at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has practiced in many settings including hospital, subacute medicine, community, internal medicine and consultant pharmacy. He has collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to meet the medication related needs of older adults. This collaboration has led to an innovative model of care in subacute/long-term care that is being disseminated to over 400 rehabilitation centers. Additionally, he is actively involved in developing community and university-sponsored Medication Therapy Management programs to help older adults age in place. He is advocating for expanding pharmacists’ services and has chaired the Health Information Exchange task force with the Maryland Healthcare Commission and the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP). Clinical research initiatives have focused on improving the care of patients with polypharmacy and dementia which led to publications in the American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy, the Consultant Pharmacist, Annals of Long Term Care and book chapters in Dementia Care and in Geriatric Practice: A Competency Based Approach to Caring for Older Adults.

Currently, Dr. Mansour is the clinical coordinator of the Interprofessional Education in Geriatrics as part of the mission of the Peter Lamy Center on Drug Therapy and Aging. He had taught students from the schools of audiology, dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, dental hygiene and social work at University of Maryland. He is certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in geriatric pharmacy, is a fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and serves as a past president and on the board of directors of the Maryland Chapter of ASCP.

Nicholas G. Popovich, PhD


Nicholas G. Popovich, PhD is a Professor Emeritus, the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Pharmacy (UIC COP), Department of Pharmacy Systems, Outcomes, and Policy (PSOP).  Previously, he was the Associate Dean for Professional Development at the COP. Popovich served as Department Head of the PSOP (formerly Pharmacy Administration) Department at the UIC COP from January 2002 until May 2013. Formerly, Popovich was on the faculty of the Purdue University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences for 27 years.  Popovich earned his baccalaureate, masters, and doctor of philosophy degrees from the UIC COP. In 1991-1992, Popovich served as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and has been honored to receive six, Rufus A. Lyman Awards presented annually for the outstanding research article which appears in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education.  In 1997, he received the AACP Distinguished Educator Award.  While at Purdue University, Popovich was also honored to receive five Professor Robert Heine undergraduate teaching awards within the School of Pharmacy, was a recipient of two University-wide Amoco Awards for teaching excellence, and was inducted as a Founding Fellow in the Purdue Teaching Academy in September 1997.  In March 2007, Popovich was awarded the American Pharmacists Association Gloria Niemeyer Francke Leadership Mentor Award.   In May 2014 and May 2019, he was the recipient of the UIC COP “Golden Apple Award” presented by the UIC COP Classes of 2014 and 2019, respectfully. In July, 2017, Popovich was awarded the Inaugural AACP Lifetime Achievement Award.  Popovich possesses a keen interest in the personal and professional career development of doctor of pharmacy students, clinical residents/clinical fellows, graduate students, and junior faculty.

Eric Timmens, BS, MS



Eric Timmens serves as the Operations Manager, International Health Unit, Projects Department at Samaritan’s Purse in Boone, NC.  He is responsible for maintaining the readiness of SP’s Emergency Medical Response capabilities including the Emergency Field Hospital.  While at SP, he deployed to the Democratic Republic of Congo for Ebola Response, Mozambique for Cyclone Idai and the Bahamas for Hurricane Dorian.  Just prior to starting SP in August, 2018, he retired after 38 years of serving in both the Army and Navy Medical Service Corps where he deployed numerous times in deployable field hospitals and medical units.  He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Hospital Administration, Organizational Development.

Virgil Van Dusen, BS Pharm, JD

 

Virgil Van Dusen is the Bernhardt Professor of Pharmacy in the College of Pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He is a graduate of the College of Pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and The University of Tulsa College of Law. He has taught at Southwestern for over 20 years, five of which were as a clinical instructor. Prior to joining Southwestern he practiced extensively as both a pharmacist and an attorney. Courses that he teaches include pharmacy law, ethics and leadership.
Dr. Van Dusen has authored numerous articles dealing with legal and management issues related to pharmacy practice. His articles have appeared in such journals as the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, Hospital Pharmacy, Journal of Pharmacy Technology, U.S. Pharmacist, Pharmacy Times, Drug Topics and America’s Pharmacist. He has presented research at both state and national conferences and is frequently invited as a speaker for pharmacy organizations.

 DEVOTION & WORSHIP LEADERS

Jeffrey A. Bates, PharmD

 

Dr. Bates’ personal mission is to recruit, empower, and inspire healthcare providers (especially pharmacists) who are committed to lavishing the love of Christ on our fallen world through the provision of exceptional care, routinely striving to exceed expectations.

Joining Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy as Associate Dean in the summer of 2016, Dr. Bates helps to ensure that students achieve the highest levels of success, both in their pharmacy studies as well as in their efforts to honor God. His role focuses on guiding future pharmacists from the early stages of recruitment all the way through fostered involvement as alumni.

In the years prior to joining Cedarville, Dr. Bates served at Ferris State University’s College of Pharmacy as Assistant Dean and Director of Student Success. While at Ferris, he founded the Ferris Pharmacy care clinic in 2013. Located inside Ferris’ College of Pharmacy, students regularly honed their clinical skills, assuring comprehensive care to underserved patients in and around Mecosta County. Further, he shared clinical responsibilities in an Interdisciplinary Diabetes Clinic, facilitating experiential and inter-professional learning for pharmacy, optometry, and nursing students.

Dr. Bates is privileged to have received over $130,000 in grants and has been an invited lecturer many times on both state and national platforms. Dr. Bates has helped lead a number of non-profit organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Pharmacists Association, Hope House Free Medical Clinic, as well as Cran Hill Ministries. Currently, he serves as a deacon at Grace Baptist Church in Cedarville and leads committees in both the American Academy of Colleges of Pharmacy as well as in Christian Pharmacy Fellowship International.

He and his wife Sheryl are originally from the central Michigan area, but are now privileged to call Cedarville, Ohio home. They have three children and are strong advocates for, and supporters of, foster care and adoption.


Joy Greene, PharmD



Dr. Joy Greene is a native of North Carolina who received her Pharm.D. degree from UNC in 1998. Joy worked in community pharmacy for seven years before joining the Academy.  She taught at Wingate University from 2005 to 2011. In 2011, God called Joy and her family to move to Jackson, Tennessee where she taught at Union University until June, 2014.  God opened up an opportunity for Joy and her family to return to NC in July of 2014 when she accepted an Assistant Dean position at the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy at High Point University.  Joy has been married to her husband, Bryan, for 23 years and they have two children. Joy and her family are members of Greene Street Baptist Church in High Point.

Jennifer Sands, BS Pharm



Pharmacy has taken a back seat for Jennifer since the death of her husband Jim in the World Trade Center terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Back then, no one would’ve convinced her that anything good could ever come out of such an unthinkable tragedy. But she has since learned that God is able to do exceedingly more than we can imagine when we put our trust in Him! God used 9/11 as a catalyst to bring Jennifer to saving faith in Jesus Christ. She now regularly shares her story of God’s grace and her message of trusting Him and His Word. Jennifer’s story has been featured on many national media outlets and she’s the Author of 3 books: A Tempered Faith, A Teachable Faith, and A Treasured Faith. She’s a popular retreat speaker and regularly addresses many audiences with her powerful, Biblically-centered messages. Jennifer is a 1989 graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. She recently retired from pharmacy, after working 30 years in the same independent store in New Jersey. The majority of her time is now devoted to Christian writing and speaking on a local, national, and international basis. Jennifer also leads tours to Israel where she introduces people to the Land of the Bible and teaches at the Biblical sites. Susan Smith, BS, PharmD, BCPS 



Dr. Susan Smith completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree at Ohio Northern University in May 1990 and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in May 1992.  Following her graduation, Dr. Smith completed a postgraduate specialty residency in Adult Internal Medicine at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina.  Dr. Smith practiced as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Internal Medicine at MUSC and Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina before transitioning to her current role in academia at Wingate University in Wingate, North Carolina, where she is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy.  Her areas of interest include anticoagulation, medication/patient safety, and pharmacogenomics. Her favorite hobbies include any project that uses a needle or  crochet hook, reading, gardening, sports, and spending time with her family - husband Rob, children Melanie and Matthew, and 2 cats Bootsie and Tiger.

Keith W. Allhands, BS Pharm

 

Keith Allhands is a pharmacist living in southeast Indiana.  He started out his career working in the first computerized independent pharmacy in the state of Indiana located in New Castle, while working part-time at the local hospital.  Keith retired after 39 years at Dearborn County Hospital working his way from staff pharmacist to assistant director of pharmacy services.  A Purdue graduate, he is licensed in the states of Indiana and Alaska.  Professional organizations include Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI), American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), Indiana Pharmacists Alliance (IPA), and Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA).  He works in his community as a board member and clinic director for the Volunteers in Medicine of Dearborn, Ohio, and Switzerland Counties, a free medical clinic in Aurora, IN.  Keith volunteers as a pharmacist interpreter and a board member of the Hook’s Drug Store Museum located at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis, a board member of the Dearborn County Federal Credit Union, and a member of the Dillsboro Community C.A.R.E. (Community Action Response Engage) team.  Keith is a supply pastor for various churches for pastors needing vacation/sick time or churches between full-time pastors.  He volunteers on short-term medical brigades.  He is married to his bride, Linda, has three beautiful daughters, and four engaging grandchildren.

April Ballentine, BS Pharm

April Ballentine received her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Immediately upon graduation April worked as a pharmacist at the Veterans Administration Long Term Care Facility in Lexington, Kentucky. Since that time, April has worked almost exclusively as a community pharmacist, while taking a few years off when her children were very young. Though her community pharmacy experience includes stints at Kroger and WalMart pharmacies, April’s true passion within the profession has been working for independent community pharmacies, including Fidelity Pharmacies in Dayton, Ohio, and the Medicine Shoppe in Lebanon, Ohio. Her current position is as an MTM/immunization pharmacist at Yost Pharmacy in Mason, Ohio. Regardless of her position, April has always made it a priority to impact others with the love of Christ through the profession of pharmacy. April and her husband, Jeb, also a pharmacist, live in Lebanon, Ohio.
